Survivor Stories & Thank You Letters

Thank You Letter Archives : 20102009/2008

March 2013Dearest members, supporters, and contributors,

We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the gift you have given us. We only hope one day we can return the favor in some way. Before I was diagnosed, we already had huge medical bills. My husband Greg was hurt at work and was out for two years, then he lost his job and has been looking for another two years.

With unexpected and unrelated medical bills for both of us it was very hard to get by. Then to hear that word “cancer”, we were completely lost. Yes, we have great support from friends and family and now we consider you our family, too. I just completed my radiation therapy on March 1st and I know I still have a fight in front of me. But I am also a cervical cancer survivor from 28 years ago, and I will stand taller and tougher than ever. There are just too many loving and caring people in our lives to just give it up. So again, thank you for making our lives that much more enriched and happier.

God Bless You,
Merri Rathmanner

Dear Pinkribbonriders,

Thank you so much for your help. Your organization is such an appreciated gift for women with breast cancer. I feel fortunate in your support.

Attached is a picture of my daughter Marlee and myself at a cancer fundraiser at her work. I have been overwhelmed by the out pouring of love and care from family, friends, and strangers during my treatment. It amazes me the number of women, very strong, brave, resilient women, that are going through this and have gone through this in the past. I hope I will be able to help others with my story and my support.

Thanks,
Lorelle Van Houten

Dear Jody McKay (Pink Ribbon Riders),

I can’t begin to express my deepest appreciation for the gift of $500.00. The money will be very helpful as I continue my cancer treatments.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!

A diagnosis of breast cancer is a very scary thing, especially when you get it twice 🙁 It’s always nice to know that there are people out there caring and supporting you, without even knowing you and understanding that the bills do NOT stop coming just because you are out of work. Thank you so much for your kind words and generous gift – it’s made things a little easier. I am so thankful to the volunteers and supporters of the Pink Ribbon Riders – I have been a supporter in the past and will continue to do so in the future!!!

I’ve fought hard – I’m not a quitter and just received the news that I am cancer free … again 🙂 Let’s hope that it stays that way!!!

Love and blessings,

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,

I want to thank you so much for the $500 gift card that I recently received from your organization. I am a 61 year old woman and was diagnosed with breast cancer this past September. I live upstate New York and traveled to Sloan Kettering in New York City for my treatment. The money that you have sent me helped off set the cost of my travel there and also has helped with insurance co payments. Since I am on a fixed income this was especially appreciated.

I am happy to tell you I have finished my treatments and am feeling well. Your support and caring is so appreciated.

I wish many blessings to all of you who have such generous spirits.

Best,
Millie, New York

Dear PRR,

My name is LaVon Johnson. I live near Cass Lake, MN. On December 31

I received the call from my doctor that my biopsies showed cancer. The hardest part was telling my children and other family members. My son immediately told me that I should go to the Pink Ribbon Riders web site and apply for their help.

About 30 minutes ago I received an enveloped delivered to my door. It was the $500 gift card you sent to me. I immediately called my son, who is the one who told me about PRR a few years ago. He has been involved with your organization for several years now.

When I was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma breast cancer my first thought was, “How do we do this financially?” Well, through your help it will make it much easier. I really can’t put into words the appreciation I feel.

THANK YOU! God bless you as you continue to help others.

February 2013

I would like to say thank you so much for your generous gift! This was appreciated more than words can say. I have been off of work for a while and your gift really went a long way in taking away from some financial stress. God Bless you and your wonderful organization for all that you do for so many in need!!

Thank You,
Tracy Stank

February 2013

From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!!! My husband retired from 20 years in the military, and hasn’t been able to find work. Your gift really helped my family this month. About my picture: I had my daughter make the sign for me after my surgery, the tumor was removed, and all lymph nodes were negative. I’m currently in radiation every day, I have already completed 2 weeks and still have 4 weeks to go. May GOD bless each and every one of you for your love, compassion, kindness and devotion.

Many Blessings
Mrs. Tina Stelson

P.S You are more than welcome to use my name. I live in Wisconsin.

February 2013

A heartfelt “THANK YOU” to Pink Ribbon Riders and their supporters for the gift card. It can be sometimes difficult to understand the significance of such gestures until you’ve been put into a situation where you have no choice but to lean on others to ensure that your family is cared for while you go and address issues of larger context. Never, would we have guessed, everyone who has stepped up to fill in where we fall short. There is no way we could do this alone, and for that we are forever grateful. We hope to pay it forward in the future, to others in need in the community and elsewhere, and especially to those who find themselves in situations similar to our own…fighting the fight.

Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support,

Michele

My name is Ms. Sandra Dora Ndlovu from Kalamazoo, Michigan. I am 43 years old. I would have never guest in a million years that I would be diagnosis with stage IIIC Inflammatory Breast Cancer. I thank you Pink Ribbon Riders for your assistance. I am temporarily off work with no financial or medical benefits. Your assistance will definitely be used wisely within our household to help in meeting the basic needs of just living (shelter, food, clothing, prescription co-pays and etc.).Again, thank you for all you do.

January 2013

Hi,

I just wanted to say thank you so much for the gift card! It was a tremendous help. I used it for gas going to my radiation treatments in St. Cloud. It was 50 miles one way for 6 weeks, Monday-Friday. It paid for the majority of it! I have since finished treatment and I am feeling great. I was reluctant to apply but one of my best friends talked me into it. She, along with her husband, brother-in-law & nephew, have gone on some of your rides to raise money. I always knew that they were awesome people, but I never realized there was a whole organization full of you! It is overwhelming to know that there is so many caring people out there. I am truly blessed to have so much love & support at such a difficult time in my life.

Thanks again!

January 2013

Dear Jody McKay and Pink Ribbon Riders,

Thank you all so much for the generous gift card of $500.00!! I was so pleasantly surprised to receive this. I have had so many wonderful friends offer to help, and I secretly want to say “Do you have a bag full of money you could give me?” And you folks have done just that.

This is a very difficult time to go thru treatment and still work full time. The medical bills are adding up, and I get smaller paychecks due to time taken off. I try not to stress about the situation, but, that is hard to do. This will allow me to concentrate on paying the bills with my paycheck and use the giftcard for food and gas.

God Bless you all for thinking of us in this time of need, it is greatly appreciated.!!

Sincerely,
Kathleen Binder

January 2013

I received the gift card today. You have no idea what it means to me. I’ve been fighting breast cancer since July, 2010. Your gift gives me encouragement and a lift in spirits that cannot be measured. Marlene Jones, St. Paul, MN

December 2012

Hi, My name is Shantelle Richie and I was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer 5 months ago at the age of 24. It just happened so suddenly and so unexpectedly especially since it does not run in my family. I have learned that I am a very strong woman and I was determined not to let this break me. The last thing I wanted was to have to move back home and give up my independence. I am currently in my 3rd year of Law school. Between that doctors appointments and not feeling well I have hardly any time to work. When I received the gift card it definately brightened up my day and eased some worries. Thank you again, Shantelle.

December 2012

Ms. McKay,

I recently received a surprise visit from UPS. I cannot tell you how shocked, amazed, thrilled, and relieved I was when I opened the package to find a gift card from Pink Ribbon Riders! Thank you really doesn’t seem to be enough. As a single mother with breast cancer, I truly felt a huge weight removed from my shoulders.

Thank you for all that you and your organization does!

Gratefully,

Lynn Crocker

December 2012

Thank you! Thank you! We received your gift yesterday and I can’t begin to tell you how a huge wave of relief came over me.

I am from a small town in Michigan and have a long drive for radiation. This gift gives us peace of mind that we will not have to worry about having enough gas to get there and back. My husband has been such a trooper in all of this and your gift has given him the gift of having one less thing to worry about!

Again, we appreciate what you have done for us and wish you all “Happy Holidays”. Diane Bond

P.S. When my wife opened your letter, she cried. Thanks again. Jeff Bond

November 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,Thank you just doesn’t seem to be enough for the generous gift you have given me. This has been a journey for me that I never dreamed I would ever have to take and one that has taught me so much. I had a mammogram in January 2011 and had put it off for other reasons this when in April I found a lump. The lump was the size of a golf ball and I was shocked. It just goes to show how fast it can grow. When I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer I decided it was just a little bump in the road and I was “Cowgirl Tough – fight like a girl and WIN” and that is what I plan to do. I will fight hard and stay strong. With your generous gift I can purchase things I never could afford otherwise. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart – you are an amazing organization I am proud to say has my back.Thank you for being such an amazing support for those of us with breast cancer

October 2012

Dear Jody-I received your gift & wanted to thank you. I feel like thank you isn’t enough & am having a hard time finding the right words. I have just been taking it day by day & really trying to focus on getting well. The amount of stress this has caused weighs very heavily on my shoulders. When I opened your envelope all I could do was cry. You have helped so much & I just can’t thank you enough! Some day I will be in a better financial place & I will give back to this beautiful organization. Thank you thank you!! Deb Summers & Family. Chesterfield Michigan

October 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Rider staff and supporters,

Thank you so very much for the awesome $500 gift card I received today. I am in stage 4 metastatic Breast Cancer with involvement in the lungs, bones, liver and brain. I am currently receiving Chemo every three weeks and it seems to be working this time. My markers have gone from 200 in May down to 50 in September. Your generous support will help with my monthly bills and will relieve my stress level immensely. It is committed people like you that help sustain our level of faith as we fight this terrible disease. Thank you again for your assistance at this very stressful time. God bless you all. Sincerely, Bonnie Passino from Farmington, New York.

October 2012

Once again, I thank you for your generous help at a very dark time in my life. Now — for an update!!! I had a follow-up appointment with my Oncologist on Thursday. Needless to say, I was terrified. Sitting in that Waiting Room brought back the reality of why I was there. Blood work was done first — my counts are still a little off due to lingering effects of the Radiation. Other than that — all is good — and she pronounced me “CANCER FREE”. I dragged myself into that office but I floated out. Now — if I can just stay that way! — I want to be on guard but I do not want to be paranoid. I want to have a quality of life where every little ache does not throw me into a panic that the cancer has returned. Be assured that I will work on this positive attitude. I am on Arimidex and I am doing good with it — thank God!!!! The perfect end to the day on Thursday: I attended the Breast Cancer Awareness event at the Fort Drum Commons sponsored by the Samaritan Medical Center — they gave us generous “Goody Bags” at registration which included a nice long sleeve shirt for the Survivors — there were Vendor Booths with great “handouts” — live music — an excellent program emceed by a Breast Surgeon — a delicious dinner — and entertainment (a comedian who has been on HBO, the View, NBC & ABC – she was hilarious). They had all the Survivors stand to be acknowledged — I stood proud — I have won and I will do all in my power to continue to fight this evil enemy!!! It has been a long and difficult year — the prayers and support of family and friends have brought me through this storm. And — Pink Ribbon Riders were a true godsend for me — I was comforted by the kind and encouraging support. I found that the world of Cancer can be a lonely place but I found “family” on with the Pink Ribbon Riders – Keep up the wonderful work! Thank you

September 2012

I was so grateful to have been blessed with the
gift card from you organization. This really came
right on time for me and my family. As devastating as it was to be diagnosed with breast cancer, it brought joy to me knowing there is support groups like yours who provide financial support and comfort. I just want to let you know
I appreciated your gift and will always keep pink ribbon riders in my heart.
Thanks So Much!

September 2012

Today I sit down to write a thank-you to all of you at Pink Ribbon Riders. I have never, in all my life, been the recipient of such generosity and thoughtfulness. I had the opportunity to attend Pink Ribbon Fundraiser at Vanellis in Forest Lake last month and I met some truly real and wonderful people. I don’t know if it’s the cancer that binds us or humanity but I felt so connected to everyone. Having a life threatening disease slows you down and invites us to acknowledge the fragility of life, Pink Ribbon Riders confirms the love and support of the people around us; and for that I am so very thankful. August 2012
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for the $500.00 gift card I received from your organization. I can’t tell you what a relief it is to have some financial assistance at this time.
In April of this year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I felt totally lost and couldn’t believe the results to be true. I had my operation on June 13th where the doctor removed a tumor and a few lymph-nodes. I have now had 14 treatments of radiation and am feeling quite well.
The Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook you sent has been a great asset to me. Anytime I have a question I check the book for the answer. It is so well written easy to understand.  I hope more breast cancer patients could have access to this informational book. Thanks again.Sincerely,
Anna R. Buonagura

August 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders:Just wanted to send a note of thanks for the gift card you sent. I used the money to purchase a wig that looked very similar to what my hair looked like prior to treatment. Having this wig allowed me to go out in public with more confidence which is a great thing when going through breast cancer treatments.Attached is a photo of me without the wig but with my new hair. 🙂

Sincerely,
Sharon Jadrny

Thanks you so much for the gift of $500.00 to help with expenses while I fight my breast cancer. There are no words that can describe how I felt when I found out I had cancer. The testing and surgery were just overwhelming for me. I am now taking radiation which means a trip to the hospital 5 days a week for 7 weeks, traveling over 60 miles a day. The gift will be used to purchase gas, as we have to fill our car sometimes twice a week. I’m just so thankful it got caught in time and I will make a full recovery. I know the fight is just beginning but this is one fight I will win!!!  Thanks you again, Ginny
PS: you can use my full name: Ginny Snider from Wisconsin

Thank you so very much for the gift card.  I appreciate it so much, I am using it toward my medical bill at Mayo Clinic. As you know the medical bills with cancer really add up, so organizations like yours really help relieve a little of the stress that comes with trying to pay bills.  I am lucky that I live in Minnesota so that the traveling to Rochester is not as expense as it could be. God bless all of you for what you do for us.  Karen Haefs

July 2012

Dear Friend,

Thank you for the Chase Visa gift card of $500, it was so thoughtful & appreciated!!  Since I have missed quite a bit of work with my March re-diagnosis & the fact that it cost approximately $9000 a month (we still don’t know what insurance will pay) for my treatment it has been great to pay off balances at the hospital and clinic thanks to your generosity!  So far my treatment is working but I don’t know how I would get through indefinite treatments…and bills if there weren’t organizations like yours!!  Thank you again.

Ps. The picture is from our honeymoon, we just celebrated 1 year!! (My husband’s name is Andy)

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,
Thank you for all of your assistance it has really help take care of the smaller bills. Having a husband who has Multiple Sclerosis and is in the later stages and needs me to be his caregiver it has alleviated some of that strain and allowed me to focus on myself  and my battle while continuing to take care of him. You all are angels.

Peace Be With You,

July 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,

Thank you so much for the gift of $500.00,  the hugs and good wishes sent from you, all the volunteers and supporters.  I am so thankful that my social worker told me about your organization.  What a feeling receiving the package from you!  Made me feel very special and not so alone.  This is a picture of my daughter and I at my 49th birthday dinner.  Four days later I had my mammogram, which I have been having yearly since I was 28.  With the extra views and core biopsy I was diagnosed with breast cancer nine days later.  My cancer was not able to be felt by myself or any Doctor.  There were small changes that could be seen but went unnoticed until I had that mammogram come back suspicious.  It is very important to make sure that you have your mammograms and not to skip any.  I feel so blessed to have received this generous gift.  I will use it to pay medical bills.  I have had two surgeries and will be having my first radiation treatment today.  Thank you again for all you do!
Sincerely,
Teri – Woodbury, Minnesota

To the pink ribbon riders who have given so much…Thank you for the gift card toward the extra expenses brought into our life through cancer. We had no idea the way life gets turned upside down because of cancer. I will never take for granted life the way I did before. I am enclosing a picture of myself. I am almost to the half point of my Chemo..and then on to 6 weeks of radiation. You do not know the depth of your help with this money as we will purchase gas cards for all of the travels…. Thanks again!! Julie Hunt

June 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders, I would like to thank-you for my $500.00 gift card. The $500.00 gift card will help me with my medical and travel expenses. My breast cancer was caught early with my yearly mammogram. My treatment was easy, I didn’t have to have chemo-therapy. I was able to have the Mammosite radiation therapy. Because of my experience with breast cancer, I am a strong supporter of yearly mammograms.

Thank-you, Wilma Rundell Wynantskill, NY

March 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders and Jody, Thank you so much for the wonderful gift!!! I can’t express my thanks enough. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October, just two weeks after I was engaged to be married to my high school sweetheart. After 2 surgeries we married in December. I had chemotherapy and am currently in the middle of radiation. It’s been a tough road but my husband, friends and family have been an unbelieveable support. Having to be on short term disability from my job and my husband being unemployed until recently, this has been a very difficult time. Just when I thought times were hard, my husband’s vehicle died and it cost more to fix than it was worth. I didn’t know how I was going to get to my radiation treatments because he needed a vehicle for his new job. I felt so overwhelmed, scared and defeated. Our prayers were answered and we were able to find a car with help from others. The gift you have given us has helped lighten the burden considerably. Please know when we are back on our feet, we will pay this forward.
Sincerely,
Kathy Brunell Plymouth, Minnesota

March 2012

Thank you again for your help, your hugs and kindness !!!!!

Thank you so very much for the gift card.  I am a single parent with no income and breast cancer;  the card couldn’t have come at a better time.  Please accept my deepest gratitude! – Connie

March 2012

Thank you, thank you and thank you for my gift of $500. It’s been a struggle the last few months; I’ve been unemployed for two years and was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, but with your gift I was able to get car repairs, food and gas.

Hope you got the attachment of me and my son Thomas at his baby shower. Kaylee Nicole Fountain was born November 23, 2011 and I had the opportunity of being at the hospital.

Again, thank you wonderful people for reaching out.

Love,
Gloria Whitmore

March 2012

I would like to express my gratitude for your very generous gift in a time of need. I am currently fighting breast and lung cancer, and attend treatments 5 days a week (sometimes multiple appointments in a day). The gift card has enabled me to afford the very high cost of gas to get to and from my treatments, which is often 30 miles a day. My family is very impressed by your organization, and I cannot say enough good things about the Pink Ribbon Riders!! I will let everyone I know what a GREAT organization you have, and that they should encourage others to support you. I am a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and look forward to beating cancer and spending my future with my family. Pink Ribbon Riders will always be in my heart!!

March 2012

To the Generous Donors of Pink Ribbon Riders,

My husband and I want to thank you so much for your generosity. I know that every person has a story, but until you hear the stories you cannot know what an impact you have made on someone’s life.

The year 2011 not only included my battle of breast cancer, but also job loss and seeking employment for my husband. He was laid off from his job just before we learned of my breast cancer. Losing a job is a blow for any man, but then getting news that his wife has this awful disease and is facing horrible surgeries and cancer treatments is overwhelming. He was my rock during this journey. He took such good care of me and was there with me for every doctor appointment, every surgery, every chemo treatment. We actually consider it a blessing that he was unemployed during that time. I don’t think I could have walked this journey without his unconditional love, caring support and encouragement.

As of January 30th, with the exception of minor surgeries and being monitored by my doctors, my cancer journey ended and my oncologist has given me a clean bill of health! Unfortunately, my husband’s unemployment is still a reality. After 15 months he continues to be diligent in his job search and we have hope that he will find employment soon.

So after hearing my story, you can understand that we are grateful that you would bless us financially. You are amazing!

With all sincerity,

Becky Oldham
Colorado Springs, CO

March 2012

My story begins with a doctor appointment as I had a tick bite that seemed to cause some inflammation. After a course of antibiotics, the inflammation increased and moved into my arm. An ultrasound revealed a concern as lymph nodes were enlarged. Referral to a specialist to further assess my symptoms. Two biopsies later in the week revealed it was the “C” word. Inflammatory Breast Cancer….described as a rare and aggressive cancer. The action plan is chemo, mastectomy and radiation. Hard words to hear, even harder to absorb…..what does this mean. All the questions of how will or how can I beat this. What will happen to my kids if something happens to me?, What do I do with the hobby farm that is up for sale? Can I work? How long can I work? Is my will up to date? and on and on………. My action plan was to do what I could but to seek help from the Lord, seek his guidance through this. I have completed 22 weeks of chemo. Had surgery this last week and will be having radiation as soon as my incision heals. What I have learned is that life is like a ride….it is a journey filled with moments of joy shared with family and friends. But there are potholes and detours that we encounter along the way. It is with our faith, the help of others that we meet along our journey and determination that one finds their path and moves forward. It is you.. the Pink Ribbon Riders that has helped me on my journey. You helped in relieving some of the stress related to being unable to work and being a single parent…with bills accumulating. The gift from Pink Ribbon Riders was a moment of joy and relief. Many of my rider friends have participated in the local Breast Cancer rides. I never dreamed that I would be a benefactor from their efforts, from the Pink Ribbon Riders group. On this journey as a breast cancer warrior and hopefully a survivor, I know that the generosity and the efforts of your group has made a difference in my life, has helped me in my journey and is helping others diagnosed with Breast Cancer. So thank you for sharing and supporting me in my journey. Thank you for helping all of us with Breast Cancer.

Bless you!
Kathy

February 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,

Words can’t fully express my gratitude for the gift card that I recently received from you. 2011 was the worst year of my life, emotionally, mentally and financially. Thank you for all the work you do on behalf of cancer patients and survivors. You are truly appreciated!

Melanie Gill

January 2012Dear Jody and The Pink Ribbon Riders,Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the gift of 500 dollars. It provided me breathing room when I needed it most. Due to my location, traveling to the various doctors, I have put 8000 miles on my car since July.  The gift was used for gas.

This is my picture of my first time going without my wig. My hair finally grew back enough. It was one year and one week ago that I lost it. I started chemo the day after my 57th birthday. My birthday is today, January 11th. I have had chemo, total mastectomy, and radiation. There have been some issues with lymphatic fluid which necessitated two additional surgeries but we are hopeful it will stop eventually. I just go in weekly to have it removed. In 8-9 months, if everything goes as planned, they will perform a Tram.

I just wanted you to know how much this money means and how grateful I am for it. Your work is so appreciated. If there is anything I can do for your organization, please feel to email me.

Again, thank you to you and your wonderful organization

Sincerely,
Mary Sanborn.

December 2011

I would like to thank the Pink Ribbon Riders from the bottom of my heart for selecting me as one of their recipients of the gift card at this year’s Minnesota ride. As I stated at the banquet, I have participated the previous 3 yrs as a trail guide and a contact in the area prior to the ride. I did this in honor & memory of my older sister, Janet Schroeder, who first had breast cancer and was almost a 5yr survivor when it was discovered that she had stage IV Ovarian Cancer. I always hoped I would never have to go through what she did, but it was not to be. I found a lump the first part of August, had the tumor removed in September and began my chemo in October. I have now completed my treatments, of which there were 6; 1 every 3 wks, with the last one on February 1st.When I found all of this out, I chose to have the genetic testing done and found that I was a carrier of the BRCA1 mutated gene; and this was from my dad’s side of the family not my mom’s. This means I am more susceptible to breast& ovarian cancer, so next week I will be meeting with surgeons to schedule a hysterectomy & a double mastectomy; by doing this it will put me in the 90% bracket for non-reoccurance. Whereas, if I were to do nothing it would just be a matter of time until one or the other or both would show their ugly heads again. Thank you again to everyone, and we will see you at the 2012 Minnesota Ride.Sincerely,
Elaine Kingsley

November 2011

Thank you so much for the debit card.  It is approx 30 miles to my treatment so gas gets expensive especially if I need radiation.  I will be sent to a doctor perhaps in January. I have to do 3 more chemo treatments yet. I live in New York State,  this picture is my dahlia’s (flowers) and I have had a first hair cut. I had long hair all my life (70 years) and when I had it cut it had a curl in it and sorta feathered.  It came out before 2nd treatment.  Thank you,  Priscilla Gascho

October 2011

iDear Pink Ribbon Riders,
I don’t even know where to begin. I received your genorous gift on Monday 10/24/11. Thank you for your kindness and your support. Without people like yourselves it can be a very lonely road out there. With the support from you it put a smile on my face, and warmed my heart to know that people I don’t even know care about me. How awesome is that!
God Bless you all.

Sincerely,
Deborah Wieling, Holland, Michigan

September 2011

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and have had surgery and radiation, and am now undergoing chemotherapy.  As a friend of mine who has walked this road said” It is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” One of my doctors told me that many people especially women, come out of this experience better people.  If that’s the case I imagine it’s because we’re privileged to be the recipients of so much generosity and love during our illness.  I knew my family and friends would be there for me, though just how much so was amazing, but more amazing still is the kindness of strangers.  What you do is extraordinary. I will be forever grateful.

Sepetmber 2011

I just wanted to send PINK RIBBONS RIDERS a thank you note. I am surviving Breast Cancer! I am in treatment now. I am so grateful and thankful for organizations like yours that provide support for a person like myself, but also bring awareness about Breast Cancer to men and women.

We know more men and women are being affected too. You can never be repaid for what your gift provides for a person with breast cancer. The donations do several things, to name a few: Keeping the power on in our homes, transportation costs to appointments because we have a lot of those, food, medication, payment of medical bills, wigs,  undergarments and the list goes on. But, it also provides some sanity that right now it will be ok and that there is some help available.

I am in a fight against breast cancer AND I am going to win. I have been sent on a detour but it won’t last. I may be down right now but I’m not out. It may appear dark right now but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So I say to the PINK RIBBONS RIDERS by no means am I out! THANKS for keeping me in the fight, helping me around the detour and giving me a light of hope

– Thank You!

Sherry S. from Michigan

March 2011

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders, First I want to apologize for not sending this note sooner. Believe me I have thought about your generosity on a daily basis! It amazes me that so many people who have never met me and my family can care so much. Those thoughts help me stay positive and get me through my treatments. My chemo regime is very consuming. I have to be at the cancer center three days per week for treatments and some of those days I am not feeling well. All in all I am doing well.

When I received your gift card and note I was overwhelmed with emotion. Our need for extra funds was great. In addition to the extra copays and medication costs we had additional needs. At the time I was diagnosed our dryer broke down beyond repair. After my first breast cancer diagnosis and treatment was completed I donated my wig,wig products and hats to the American Cancer Society. I had to purchase a new wig.

I hope you know how much stress you are alleviating for so many people. You are making a big difference in so many people’s lives. Thank you doesn’t seem sufficient but we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! I will never forget you and cant wait until I can be a supporter instead of a recipient and pay it forward! Thank You!

Donna K. – Kalamazoo,Michigan

March 2011

We received our $500 gift from your organization today….what a blessing 🙂

While going through cancer, one has to depend on so many different people….friends, family, teachers, day care providers, medical professionals, insurance, employers…the list is endless. We are so thankful that your donation will help maintain some stability in our lives.

Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.

March 2011

I want to express my gratitude for the gift card I received in the mail. It was truly a blessing. When you are diagnosed with breast cancer it is a very stressful time. The gift card helps to relieve some of that stress.

Thank you again for the gift card. And thank you for all you do for others with breast cancer.

Pam from MI

March 2011

What a wonderful surprise! My husband and I saw the UPS van coming up our drive, we both said, “Did you order something?” It was the $500 gift card! Thank you many times over. I have not used it yet but just knowing it is there is a comfort. I know that we will need it. I am currently having chemotherapy treatment and my tumor marker numbers are going down, we hope they continue to do so. Keep up the good work and thanks again to a great organization!

Sincerely, Rose Drotts

March 2011

I received today a gift card from you and I can’t express enough much gratitude for such a generous gift. These past 6 months have been a horror for me and my family and to receive a gift like this from people I don’t even know was truly overwhelming. I want to send back hugs & thanks from me to all the volunteers & supporters of such a great organization “Pink Ribbon Riders”. This gift will definitely come in handy to pay so many co-pays. I pay completely for my own health insurance each month & with copay payments keep coming in the mail, this will truly help me catch up. I recently went back to work after not working for 10 weeks, but only working part time. It is so good to be working again and looking back at the past 6 months seems like a night mare to me. But all in the past now. I have more months ahead, but trying to maintain a position outlook. The doctors say “all preventive measures” now. I am so lucky. I have always been on top of my health, which obviously is a good thing. Cancer caught in such early stages, is definitely good. It is such a scary word, but because of organization like yours, it truly brightens the world. Once again my “thanks to all those who support such a great organization. What more can I say, Thank you for coming into my life.

February 2011

I am a 27-year old female who is a survivor of breast cancer. My journey of survivorship comes as a surprise. I was like a deer in headlights when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am a flight attendant currently on Medical Leave from Delta Airlines. I was flying all over the world and loving it. I had been to Japan, Hawaii, Germany, Kuwait and many other beautiful places. I exercised, ate as well as any flight attendant would, and was never one to smoke or drink. I am a native of Milwaukee, WI but at the time resided in Romulus, MI due to my employment. My breasts started leaking a clear substance in November 2009. I was under some stress at the time so I thought that was my body’s way of de-stressing despite my mother telling me to go and get a mammogram. I figured I was too young to have a mammogram and also there was no family history of any kind of cancer, so I thought. Well, I finally went to my primary care physician in Milwaukee in January 2010 and he ran some blood tests which all came back negative. After running all sorts of tests he finally sent me to have an ultrasound of my breast along with a mammogram. I was terrified. I was only 26yrs. old and had not a clue about mammograms or ultrasounds. I thought my first ultrasound would be when I have my first child not me being diagnosed with breast cancer. I then proceeded to have two breast biopsies which confirmed that I had breast cancer. So of course I went to have a second opinion which confirmed that not only did I have stage 3 breast cancer (Inductal Carcinoma) but, it had spread to my lymph nodes within a couple of months. I had a right breast mastectomy with removal of my right underarm lymph nodes in April of 2010. I continued on to have chemotherapy in June of 2010 and finished in September 2010. Then, in November of 2010 I started radiation therapy for six weeks and finished just days before Christmas. I am currently receiving Herceptin every three weeks because my receptors were positive which doctors say is a good thing. I still have reconstruction to go through in upcoming spring 2011 and I am blessed everyday to be living each day! I wanted to personally thank The Pink Ribbon Riders because you were a part of my survival. I thank God for placing The Pink Ribbon Riders in my life because you guys were the light at the end of the tunnel and I pray consistently for this foundation and its partners. Thank you a million times over!!!!!!!! You Rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!

February 2011

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,

Thank you so much for the gift card. I really appreciate it. It will be used toward Dr. appointments and gas, to get me back and forth to appoints and chemo treatments. Thanks for helping us breast cancer patients, services such as yours really do help us get through the tough days and give us extra strength, knowing how much people really care!

Thanks so much and thanks again for the gift card.

Best wishes, Carrie Miles

January 2011

Thank you so much for your generous gift and all of your support! The gift card helped relieve some of the financial burden on our family during treatment, such as parking for treatments and groceries. But more importantly, it was an inspirational reminder that I am not alone in the fight against breast cancer.

Thank you for all that you do from the three of us!

Sincerely, Michelle

January 2011

Words cannot express how VERY thankful I am for all your help. My pink ribbon rider card came at the best possible time! We paid some bills that were screaming for attention, got some much needed groceries, and were able to put gas in the car to get to appointments and get my husband to work so we could pay more bills. My oncologist was the person who told me about the Pink Ribbon Riders program!

Hugs and Love to all of you who raise money to help cancer patients like myself!

Sheryl from MI

January 2011

It was truly a Blessing when I received the gift card from Pink Ribbon Riders. I have been out of work and do not qualify for anymore unemployment benefits. Therefore, when I received your gift I was able to pay my Light Bill, Phone Bill, several other bills, and buy my twins a pair of winter boots. Words could never express how grateful I am to your organization for their gift to me and my family. As a single mother in treatment for Breast Cancer and without an income this gift has certainly been a blessing. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. May God bless you all for your generosity.

Sincerely,

Marina from New York

January 2011

I just wanted to send my heartfelt thanks to your organization for the gift card. It couldn’t have come at a better time.

I am a in home daycare provider and cancer survivor. I am currently going thru chemo and radiation while continuing to run my in home daycare. I am a single parent and daycare is my only income. With the onset of my cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment, I had to downsize my daycare group in order to continue to work. With downsizing, I also downsized my income.

Money has been quite tight this year and my two teenagers have not complained once. I am really proud of them and how they spent their summer helping me with the daycare and doing things around the house without being asked.

I really wanted to have a nice Christmas for my kids this year after all we have been thru, but money has been tight. With receiving the gift card today, I can get them a little surprise for Christmas morning.

Your organization is wonderful and has been a blessing to me and my family. I can’t express my gratitude enough. Thank you again!

Cheryl Mattson- Forest Lake MN

March 2013

I just want to say thank you for the gift card I received from you. It will help get me through this difficult time as I am the sole breadwinner having lost my husband to cancer a few years ago. I will be starting my chemo treatments next week and hopefully will be back to work by the Fourth of July. Once again, I thank you very, very much for your assistance at this challenging time.

I live in Minnesota but would prefer that you not use my full name. I do not know how to attach a picture of myself — somewhat computer illiterate. Thanks again. Marcia

March 2013

March 2013

Hello Jody McKay and the Pink Ribbon Riders.

Thank you so very much for the generous gift you have given to me and my family. Your gift card provided a much needed family staycation – time to celebrate my final chemotherapy treatment on Friday. We had such fun swimming and enjoying time together. While I still have a radiation regimen to go, you helped us celebrate one milestone and created indeed one less worry. In addition, your support will go toward my personal professional development as I acquire my Six Sigma Green Belt so that when I am done with treatments and ready to reenter the workforce, I will have one more tool in my toolbox.

Thanks again for the gift and for the hugs! While we take each day at a time, we are looking forward to a cancer-free future. Your organization is just fantastic!

In great appreciation,
Billi Jo Zielinski and family, MN

March 2013

I just received your gift card by UPS. I was like a kid in a candy store when I opened it up. This is such a wonderful program and I am sooo thankful there are groups out there like yours helping people like me. I am into my 3rd week of radiation, almost half way there!! This is my second bout with cancer. The first time I had bone cancer and that was 22 yrs ago This round I am fighting Breast cancer and I plan on beating that as well. With great organizations such as yours the fight is made much easier. Thank you again, Christine

March 2013

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the gift card of $500.00. What a blessing you are to me – and to many others that you extend your care and concern. When I heard the word “Cancer”, I was struck speechless. With the help of so many caring people, such as yourselves, I am surviving and thriving. I appreciate your helping hand(s).

God bless you,
Sister Carmelyn Gentrup

March 2013

Thank you very much for your generosity in providing me with the gift card. The one word I have used over and over again when dealing with breast cancer is “overwhelming”. Your help and encouragement helps ease some of the overwhelming financial burden I am experiencing. Knowing there are people who care about me and what I am going through provides a comfort that I cannot begin to describe. Thank you again for your generosity and support.

I am from the state of WI and allow the full use of my name.

Thank you!

February 2013

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,

I would like to sincerely thank you for sending me a gift card. I have to travel 210 miles round trip for my doctor’s appointments and treatments. Acquiring the gift card will certainly help ease “the pain at the pump.” Also, because of my many medical appointments, I have had to drop one of my three part time jobs; consequently, my income in the last several months has been decreased. Your generosity is vastly appreciated.

I DID RECEIVE YOUR DONATION OF THE $500.00. I WANT TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. THIS WAS SO NICE TO PAY OFF SOME OF MY DOCTOR AND HOSPITAL BILLS. MY NAME IS SHIRLEY EICHLER AND I LIVE IN COLDWATER, MI. AGAIN THANK EVERYONE THAT HELPED ME RECEIVE THIS GIFT.

SINCERELY,
SHIRLEY EICHLER

February 2013

Jody McKay and others,

I want to thank you very much for your generosity of the $500.00. My husband and I are so grateful. We have been praying that the Lord would meet our needs and we believe He used PinkRibbonRiders to do that. It will be used wisely.

We live in Detrot Lakes, Minnesota. I went in for my early Mammogram and was surprised to hear that I had an abnormal test, and the journal began. I had a mastectomy followed by chemo and radiation. I am now healing from the burns I got during radiation. The doctors feel that I am cancer free and I believe that too.

Thank you for the work you do. Your mission statement states that cancer affects the patient and also those who love them. That is such a true statement. I am so grateful that I had the Lord and all my famliy and friends to help me through this.

Thank you again for all you do,

God Bless,
Elizabeth and Robert Cummings

February 2013

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders:

I wanted to send a belated Thank You for the gift card. It was so helpful in being able to pay for incidentals like gas, groceries, etc. It meant so much to me and my family. It has been one of the bright spots I’ve had over the past couple of months.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 4, 2012. I underwent a lumpectomy on October 24. The diagnosis was a complete shock as there is no history of cancer in my family, and I have been healthy all my life. The lump was found on my mammogram, which I had almost cancelled thinking I just had one last year, and it seems to guidelines for having a mammogram change all the time. Thank goodness I did go in and have it, rather than waiting another year. I started my chemotherapy the end of November, and I still have 3 months ahead of me, then I will go through radiation therapy. The chemotherapy has been pretty brutal so I have not returned to work yet. My cancer turned out to be triple negative, which has a higher rate of re-occurrence, so they are treating it aggressively. I will be glad to have it all behind me, and return to a more normal existence.

I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for your kindness. Organizations such as yours take my breath away. To think there are people out there who are so generous with their time and money makes me realize that when this is all behind me, I will need to get out and do more to help others. Thank you again.

Mary

P.S. I am hoping the picture of my new wig comes through, and you can use my name.

January 2013

December 2012

What can I say, but Thank you…. This journey into the world of bi-lateral breast cancer has been an interesting one… 6 months ago I had no idea I had cancer and throughout these last 6 months I can honestly tell you it has been a blessing.

I have formed many new lovely friendships, learned a great deal about myself and others and developed a strong sense of purpose. I am one of the lucky ones – I can ( and did ) have the cancer removed ( full mastectomy Oct 31, 2012) I also am not on a slippery sliding slope with an illness that is slow, robbing one of abilities and dignity and terminal. I am blessed in more ways that I can count.

Thank you for your wonderful words and kind deeds. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, healthy New Year Elizabeth Welsh

December 2012

This week I finished my last Chemo treatment and will now be starting my radiation treatments.

I received a gift card from your association and what a blessing it is! I have to travel 40 miles one way to receive my radiation and it costs a lot in gas and takes a lot of my time during the day. This gift card came at the right time!! It simply takes some of the stress away that we are feeling at this time. Again – thank you!!

October 2012

I want to thank the great and supportive people at Pink Ribbon Riders. I received a 500.00 dollar gift card from them yesterday which will really help me with some chemo cost as well as buying some Christmas presents for my 3 beautiful and loving children My kids have been so supportive of me through my mastectomy in July to my ongoing chemo infusions and I am also a single parent but do have a boyfriend who has been so much help to me when he could have walked away from it all. Out of the few organizations I contacted, the Pink Ribbon Riders were the only ones who helped us out so again a great big THANK YOU!

Sincerely,

October 2012

I just wanted to say “thank you” for the wonderful surprise the UPS man delivered to my home last Thursday. The $500 gift card is truly appreciated by both my husband and myself. We will be using it to catch up on some utility bills that we have fallen behind on. With my stage 2/3 breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year I am not working presently and this really helps to take take some of the financial pressure off!

October 2012

My thanks to your great organization. My story…….I had a stroke at age66 May 13. after a week in the hospital and then a week as a inpatient for rehab I was able to go home only to return 3 days later with internal bleeding where they discovered I had had another stroke. I was barely home from that one when they discovered the recurrence of the breast cancer of 10 years ago , almost to the day. It came back in the form of a tumor in the spine .I have had radiation and won’t know if is succesful till a scan in Feb.The Dr is optomistic however. We were barely making ends meet when the daily trips for the treatments snuck up on us ( gas was at it’s highest and we found our selves beehind on utility bills as well as others). This will be used for that . 10 years ago (my husband was being treated for throat cancer at the same time.),We were younger and tougher and continued working thru out and did not have to ask for help But times have changed Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Patricia and Mario Alvarez

October 2012

I want to thank all my friends in pink ribbon riders for thinking of me in my hours of need.  I found my cancer in a mammogram and was shocked as I get one every year.  This has been very hard on me and my family as I have had 2 sisters, a mother and a brother who have passed away from cancer.  So I am very thankful to have friends that are thinking of me as I am thinking of them.  So thank you very much for all your thoughts and prayers and maybe I’ll be fortunate enough to come through this free from cancer.    Thank you all,
Sincerely Imogene (Jean) Crawford

October 2012

Dear PRR,
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your generous gift of $500. I’m using is exclusively for food. I have stage 3c breast cancer and, as a result can only work 3 – 4 days a week – if that much. I will have chemo for 9 more weeks. Then surgery and then radiation. I have no health insurance and no disability related leave time – paid or otherwise – from my job. When I stop working there will be no income. Your gift is SUCH a mental relief. I know that at least I have money for food for awhile.
I’ve been divorced 10 years. My only child/son died at age 21 in 2005 from natural causes. I plan on surviving this. Your gift is part of helping me survive.
Thank you!

Dear Ms. Mckay and all of you at Pink Ribbon Riders:

It is with enormous gratitude that I accept your most generous gift of $500.00 This indeed helps offset some expenses, the cost of which seems to rise daily.

I take great comfort in knowing your support group is out there to assist those of us who have had the misfortune to fall ill to the mysteries of cancer. We all hope that an easy cure is one day discovered, but in the meantime, it is the help of friends far and wide who truly help the “cure.”

I am impressed with your organization and how your members have found that fund-raising for this cause can be a rewarding activity. Your selfless acts of kindness toward people you have not even met is truly inspiring.

I am so very thankful for all that you do for so many of us.
Most sincerely,

August 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders, Thank you does not seem sufficient to express my gratitude for the gift of $500 I received, today! I was so surprised to see how soon after my application was submitted that the gift arrived! Surely that UPS truck was not pulling up with such a flourish with something for me! Yes, I smiled when I tore into the package and I am still smiling! How unexpected, especially since I had been recently rejected for other programs. You are amazing and obviously worked very hard to obtain the backing for such generosity being given to someone so far away whom you do not even know! Thank you to all your supporters who made this possible and for all the Pink Robbin Riders who work so diligently to make the program possible. I am about to begin radiation treatments (tomorrow) and do daily battle with the insurance company for coverage. This is a real psychological and financial boost! Thank you so much! Your much appreciated gift will be a great help in covering my mounting co-pays. My husband is working part time and I am unemployed (without unemployment payments due to this illness). While my husband is willingly providing financial support, this is a real relief for him, too, as someone whom your mission statement knowing recognizes-“this disease affects not only the diagnosed but also those who love them.” Thank you from both of us. Thank you to my many new friends who are cheering me on. Thank you for your best wishes for today and all the tomorrows, I wish you the same. August 2012

I received my gift card today. I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you. I have not been able to work much for the last month and a half and have a long road of treatments ahead of me. This definitely is going to relieve some of the financial stress for a little while. I am very grateful that there is an organization out there like yours. May you be blessed as you have blessed me. Thank you again.

August 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,
Thank you for your generous gift.  I remember the day perfectly when the doctor looked directly in my eyes and said those dreaded words, “You have breast cancer.”  Then the news turned even darker when she said, “It has spread to your liver.”  I sobbed uncontrollably and prayed begging God to give me another chance.  Well, my prayers have been answered because God has allowed me to see people through His eyes and what I see is beautiful.  Through this ugly journey we call cancer I have been surrounded and supported by so many amazing people who have shown me how kind, caring, supportive, and generous people are.  Some of them I don’t even know.  The Pink Ribbon Riders have shown me this again today.   I am truly blessed everyday to be living my life feeling the love and support of so many people.  I thank God for placing The Pink Ribbon Riders in my life.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support!  It is greatly appreciated.

I deeply appreciate the help defraying costs associated with my breast cancer treatment. The cancer was a big surprise at a young age and after my husband had also already been treated for cancer himself just a few years ago. Every bit of help makes life a little easier when illness is involved.
Thank you.

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders,

Thank you so much for the generous gift of $500.00. There are so many things that I would like to tell you about how your donation has helped me, but that would take up more time than we both have. I will tell you though, that in the 5 years that I have been fighting metastatic breast cancer, I have saved money to put A/C in my vehicle only to have it depleted to pay bills for treatments. So, I decided to check out the parts store and mechanic for prices. I got estimates and went home to discuss it with Sue, my life-partner of 18 years. As I pulled in, UPS handed me the envelope with your gift card. Needless to say, I now have  A/C for the truck.
I can’t thank you enough for helping not only myself, but so many others in their struggles to keep fighting this overwhelming disease. With a positive attitude and knowing there are others out there pulling right along with us, it makes life just a little bit easier to deal with while we push forward toward a cure.
With heartfelt thanks,
Vicki Russell

June 2012

Thanks so much for your support! I will use the money to pay towards my co-pays. I have had a lumpectomy, and a revision surgery, chemotherapy, and now radiation. Cancer is quite a journey with lots of bad days! Your help has made this a very good day!
Thank you. Marilyn Gilin

June 2012

Oh my gosh……THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! 🙂 I was SO thrilled to get your gift of $500! I was waiting all day for the UPS driver to come after my notification from him the day before! Your gift is helping my family and I pay medical bills and also maybe purchase something we normally wouldn’t be able to afford. This journey is not easy for me, but I think it’s even tougher on my family! Your generosity is truly a blessing to me and to many others affected by breast cancer and I thank you for all you do! From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate your kindness. It will never be forgotten. Someday I hope to pay it forward to others in a situation like mine. I’ve attached a picture of my family……my husband, Jay, and my two sons, Jamison (4) and Jonah (2). Sincerely, Jenny Klein Minnesota

June 2012

Thank you for supporting those that suffer from breast cancer.  We all really appreciate what you do for us.  I didn’t realize how many bills would be coming through after I found out I had cancer.  I figured I really didn’t need the help as I had a job.  Now it seems like every time I turn around a new bill is coming in the mail.  The gift card is helping me ,eep up with these bills.
I would also like to add that I was fortunate that I found my lump on my own.  I noticed a change in breast shape on one side and was persistent in self exam for a few days.  If I would not have kept searching I don’t know what would have happened.  I urge all women to get their mammograms as scheduled.

Thank you again,

Lisa C.

May 2012

DEAR Pink Ribbon Riders… My name is Lisa Marie Daniel. I was diagnosed with a pretty aggressive form of breast cancer on my Momma’s birthday in February of 2011. After a year of chemo, radiation, and continued Herceptin treatments, I began having a headache that lasted for 3 weeks. I repeatedly went to several doctors because the pain was quite unbearable. It turns out, I had what I call, an ANGRY brain marble (aka, brain tumor), which really wanted to take me down. As I am extremely stubborn and love my boys like no other, I immediately asked what was next. I was told, a craniotomy and Gamma Knife radiation, plus a new medication called Tykerb (which i will likely be on for the rest of my life). We were THRILLED when we found out that the marble was operable, and I would see an astoundingly excellent doctor in Chicago. We were, however, a little worried about money. My husband, Daniel, is an Art Teacher and Musician; I work as a Parapro in the same school system with the Special Ed kids, so money is not our priority (which is good, because there’s not a lot of it…lol!!). We decided to leave the worry in God’s capable hands and head to Chi-Town. Literally as we were pulling out of our driveway, we checked the mail, and there was your letter and gift card!!! Talk about a MIRACLE!! We were so blessed by your gift to us! God bless you and thank you with all of our hearts. We were able to pay for 3 nights in a nice hotel within walking distance from Northwestern Hospital for our boys, with a pool and everything, which they very much needed as they were a little terrified. While money doesn’t fix everything, it was a GREAT comfort to us not to have to worry about paying for our hotel and some of our food. My boys names are Maxime, age 13, and Jacob, age 16. Also, my big brother lives with us, his name is Keny. We all benefitted from the generous gift you all sent 🙂 Thank you, and God bless every single one of you!!!

xoxoxox….Peace, Love, and Happiness… Lisa Marie Daniel, Watervliet, MI

May 2012

The past 15 years I have been challenged and tested. My parents and family members deaths, murder of my sister who was a nun, and the suicide of our eldest daughter. I thought I had all I could handle and then I heard those words – “Carol , you have breast cancer.” I knew that I could handle the emotional and physical part of this new challenge in life, but financially I was frantic. In one week I went from gainfully employed to having cancer and now out of a job. I was 3 months shy of qualifying for Family Leave Act and they could not save my job for me. My husband and I both work at the same company and each had our own insurance. I had to quit to transfer to his insurance without any break in coverage. I had a small cancer insurance policy that has helped some, but I am still working with them to get all my benefits. When I shared my story with the social worker in my oncologists office, she told me about your great organization. It was music to my ears. With Pink Ribbon Riders all I did was fill out a few forms and support came via the mail service! Fast and dignified. There is help out there! It means so much to me that you were able to give support to me both in words and financially. I tell everyone about your great organization and I wish you all the best in all the years to come!

Sincerely, Carol North Dakota

May 2012

I just want to thank you very much for the packet I received yesterday. It will help to pay some of our bills, utilities and medical. I really appreciate the help as both myself and husband are disabled and have no income at this time. Again Thanks, Denise Pozniak Minnesota

April 2012

Dear Jody and Pink Ribbon Riders, In September 2011 our Mom Karen Belongia was diagnoised with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. This Thank-you is well over due but the last six months have been life changing and a blur. From the support of your GREAT organizations we were able to apply the $500.00 to pay one of the numerous medical bills. It is WONDERFUL people like you that make going thru this disease so much easier. It was very well appreciated and THANKS SO MUCH for all that you do to help families like ours. God Bless.

March 2012

Dear Pink Ribbon Riders, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous gift. I am certainly greatful and have been blessed to receive it. It will certainly help me with my personal needs through my journey of having breast cancer. I had to have a right breast mastectomy and even though it has been more mental stress and my journey is far from over. It certainly is wonderful to know that not only are there angels in heaven, but also on earth. And you have been the angels among others whom have been around women in these situations. God Bless you and your people for having started pink ribbon riders, and I hope a day will come that I can one day pay it forward in helping another person in the same way I have been helped. Thank you all for being there and bringing a great big smile to my face!!
Love,

March 2012

I am in receipt of your very generous gift and thank you from the bottom of my heart. The $500 is going to be a great help in covering co-pays of my many medical bills. It is caring people like you that gives people like me the strength to carry on our battle.

My granddaughter, Trisha, who is graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree from RIT had to create a Web Site on someone who is on a journey in their life so she chose me. She is using my updates, letters, etc. She asked me to write down my feelings about having cancer. To be honest, it was not easy. I finally was able to get my thoughts on paper and I just wanted to share  them with you to give you some insight into my experience.

Here goes:
Some of my thoughts on Cancer:

Cancer is a game of Solitaire. I am the lone player. I am surrounded by family and friends who love me, who care for me, who pray for me and who support me. However, they do not have cancer. I am the one who has cancer. I cannot accurately relay to them what it feels like to have cancer. It is like trying to describe “giving birth” to an expectant mother – it is not possible to convey the experience – only those who go through it can fully understand. Cancer is the same for me. I cannot describe the feelings and the emotions.
My world as I have known it for 66 years has ended. I now exist in another dimension which I could describe as a “Twilight Zone”. I am alone in this dimension but I am aware of my family and friends hovering outside my zone. They are doing their best to be there for me — to keep me strong and positive. Of course, I appreciate their love and support. However, I am still alone. They have their own lives aside from the world of my cancer. They can escape to those lives and be free. I can compare it to the death of a loved one. Family and friends grieve and they miss that person. However, as time passes, they return to their normal routine in life — they regain the joy of life — memories fade. Actually, it is quite humbling to realize that you are not the center of the universe — that life goes on without you — that your children and grandchildren can do quite well in life without your love and guidance. However, that is the way it should be — Life is for the living and I would not want my loved ones to waste their energy in grieving for me.
The darkest moments of this journey started on the day I received the phone call — Cancer — someone was saying that word to me — it must be a mistake — my stomach falls to the floor — the phone call ends — my life is forever changed. I go to the door and see my husband in the driveway — I just look at him and blurt out “I have cancer” — I say it but I do not believe it and it is a long time before I can say it aloud again. My husband comes in and calls our children. I am no longer in the real world as I watch the reaction around me — I am removed in an eerie sort of way. The next days are spent in a vacuum — when I try to face my diagnosis, I get butterflies in my tummy — then I remind myself of all the survivors that I am hearing about and the butterflies let up for awhile. I am lost as to what to do next. I am not capable of taking action. Thank God for a daughter who takes charge — does research — is able to get me in to a top surgeon and top oncologist in record time. I now become a robot — returning to the Clinic for 6 hours of torture (MRI, Mammograms, Ultrasounds, Biopsies) whereby I pass out at the end of the 6 hours falling on my face and breaking my nose — then, my appointment with the Surgeon — then, my pre-op appointment — then, my surgery — then, my joint appointment with surgeon and oncologist — then, my bone scan and ct scan — then, port placement — then, echocardiogram — then the commencement of chemotherapy —- and just like a robot, I present myself and say “do what you have to do”. However, there was one time that I had a meltdown — I arrived for my appointment for the port placement. I thought it was a minor procedure like an IV input. My husband had an appointment with his back surgeon so I asked the receptionist how long it was going to be for my procedure. She mentioned pre-op, operating room and recovery. At this point, I was so sick of being poked and prodded — I just stood in the middle of waiting room looking at my husband and cried. The nurse was so kind and I settled down. When the surgeon found out that I had not stopped my aspirin for the full 5 days, he wanted to postpone the procedure but — thank God — he didn’t and all went well. So, I got past each of these “hurdles” — great progress in my battle!!! The heroes in my cancer world include my infusion nurses who make chemo bearable and as I move forward I find myself stronger and more positive. I wonder about my world when I complete chemo and radiation. Will it ever feel normal again? Will I live in fear of the cancer returning? Will I learn to live each day to the fullest and not worry? Will the dimension where I now reside fade back into the real world where my loved ones are? It is through the power of prayer that I remain positive that the Good Lord will bring me through this storm to sunny days ahead and I pray that I have the wisdom to appreciate those days and enjoy whatever life I have left.

Attached is a picture of me and my daughter that I feel symbolizes a daughters love for her mom ………..

Once again, many thanks,
Genevieve Miller

Thank you, Pink Ribbon Riders for your generosity of the gift card. It feels like a “roller coaster” ride while receiving my chemo treatments and radiation to follow. With God’s help and support from family and friends; I will be cured. Thank you all so much for all of your support and making the emotional “roller coaster” more bearable. Thank you very much, Diane Sink- MI

February 2012

Today I received a gift card to help me with expenses.  Being diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer affected more than just my physical health.  I’ve been facing many other obstacles especially finances.  It hasn’t been easy looking for a full-time job after diagnosis.  I worked hard and invested much money into becoming a certified social worker, only to see that go as fast as it came.  Now I’m depending on other social workers to help me!  I totally appreciate the gift you have given me at this much needed time.  God bless you!

Attached are two pictures.  The first a picture with me (middle) and my nephew Ajay and niece Heather at my sister’s farm.  The other picture is of me squeezing some love into my nephew Ajay.  This cancer diagnosis has given me a better perspective on what matters most….loving others.

To the wonderful volunteers and supporters of the Pink Ribbon Riders,

It is so easy to pick up the paper and think what a rotten world we live in, but when you hear about an organization like yours who helps strangers, I realize maybe it’s because the media only feeds us the garbage.  I am one of the strangers, one of the many breast cancer survivors, who benefited from the hard work of your volunteers and the generosity of the people who support your worthy cause.  Thank you all so much for your compassion and support.  What a gift from God you all are!  I feel so blessed to have been surrounded by so much support.  Your gift helped pay some bills and was such a welcomed blessing.

May God bless each and every one of you!
Rae Anne Niles, WI

P.S. My cancer was caught early because I go EVERY year for a mammogram.  Spread the word!

January 2012

I just wanted to thank you for your financial assistance. Our family really needed it and with your help, it eased us through the holiday season better. I now drive with your bumper sticker on my car with pride! I hope that in the future we will be able to “pay it forward”. Again, thank you so much for your care and generosity!

My client, Patricia Simpson, and I want to thank the Pink Ribbon Rider Patient Assistance program for the financial help Ms. Simpson recently received from your organization!  It helped her to purchase much needed clothing and to pay for rent, and she was so overjoyed to receive the help.  You truly provide a much needed boost, both financially and emotionally, to the people you help.  Thank you so much!

Yours truly,

December 2011

Thank you so much for the gift card it was such a blessing! I just finished treatment for stage 3 metastatic breast cancer in Sept. I was diagnosed on Oct. 12th 2010, so it was a long road to victory and your generosity made it a little smoother ride in the end. Thanks for all you do! – Christine Neff, Oswego, NY

December 2011

Dear Pink Riders, What a wonderful thing to do. Going through cancer diagnosis and treatment has very little in the way of bright spots. The best thing was realizing how many people loved and cared about me. I was told about your organization on my very last day of my last treatment. It was wonderful to find out that your organization existed, and by your gift made your caring tangible. Thank you.
– Tonya Arnett, Albion, MI Looking to pay it forward

November 2011

November 2011

Hi Jody,
I would like to take a moment & say a “BIG THANK~ YOU” to the Pink Ribbon Riders for taking the time to read my application, and send me a gift card. I live in Central Minnesota and with the upcoming snow that we will be living in for almost 6 months, I needed to get my truck fixed it needed upper u joints, your gift helped me keep my truck running and never left me sit, while undergoing chemo for my breast cancer a second time around, ( I had this 10 years ago) it was a very welcome and warm feeling to receive such a gift. I give back to the local community by volunteering and donating whenever & wherever I can. It was such a great feeling to have it come back around to me, but also very humbling at the same time. I want you “ALL” to know what your time & gift have meant to me.

Once again, Thank~You, you will find attached a picture of me “with” hair, LOL because lord knows I have none now…..from the bottom of my heart Thanks!!!!

October 2011

On October 5, 2011 the company I work for laid off several employees. I was among the several. Two weeks later, I had a mammogram and that is when they found the cancer. Now with the worry of no income, I had to face the fear of cancer treatments and the cost. Thank-you Pink Ribbon Riders for your gift! You lifted some of the financial worry from me.

Sincerely,

October 2011

To all the wonderful people that support the Pink Ribbon Riders,
I happened to be one of the unfortunate people who has breast cancer, however, I am also one of the fortunate people to discover a wonderful support group called the “Pink Ribbon Riders”!!  I have to say that this has been a huge struggle for me, midway through my life, to encounter such a terrible disease.  Along with the surgery, treatment, and change of life experiences, trying to find financial aid with all my medical and everyday expenses has been difficult, until I contacted this wonderful group of people.  They were the first to respond to my inquiries, and the first to help me out with a gift card towards expenses.  I will be using the money that I received to cover my utility bill costs.  It couldn’t have come at a better time since I have been out of work for 6 months, am self employed, and the weather is getting cold sooner than normal.
I want to send a special thank you to each and every person that contributes to this group of people.  Because of this contribution, some of the burden that I have been dealing with due to stress of financial issues has been lifted.  I can now concentrate better on my health with positive thoughts knowing that someone out there really cares about people that they don’t even know, and I don’t feel so alone going through this process of healing.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Debbie Ruthven

March 2011

Since being diagnosed with bi-lateral breast cancer in December 2010, I feel as though it’s been a whirlwind of decisions and trust. In all that has taken place there are two things I am absolutely sure of. God’s love and the love of those around me who I know and who I do not personally know. Faith, love, support and attitude are the things that gets one through a challenge as this. I feel so blessed to have been given all of these gifts.

To have a group of people as yourself step up to help those who you don’t even know is overwhelming and I thank you from the depths of my heart. It is such a blessing to have this gift to help with some of the medical bills that we have never had to deal with before. Some days I fell as though I am in a cloud and this is all a dream and I am sure that I am not the only person who has been diagnosed with breast cancer to feel this way.

You are a group of people who are filled with love and compassion and who give those around you hope in a world filled with confusion. It is what we are all called to be, but you have made the decision to reach out and touch so many lives around you. I thank you for your kindness and generosity and only hope that someday I can be there for others when their need arises.

Sincerely
Therese – Michigan

March 2011

To all the Pink Ribbon Riders and all of the people who support your foundation I would like to say thank you fro your generous gift of $500.00. It has helped me with expenses as I have been unable to work yet after my double mastectomy. I am thankful my cancer was caught so early and I do not need any chemo or radiation. I advise everybody to have their annual mammograms, it can save your life. I am a two time survivor-colon cancer in 2005 and breast cancer 2010. Please….everybody get all your annual screenings!

Thank you again, I very much appreciate your generosity!

February 2011

I would just like to send my thanks to everyone involved with the Pink Ribbon Riders organization. You will never know what it meant to receive your assistance. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. When I opened the envelope and saw the gift card, it literally brought tears to my eyes. To know that there are people out there who care and offer your kind of support is awesome. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, it’s not just the cancer I worried about. The expense involved in treatment is always a worry-it’s one that affects the whole family. Your organization has truly helped with that. I cannot thank you all enough. Having breast cancer opened my eyes to a lot of things-beside the love and support of my terrific husband & children, it also showed me that there is plenty of kindness and support from people I don’t even know. I will continue to be a survivor, and I will always keep those who have assisted me and my family in my thoughts and prayers. Life is too short and too precious not to appreciate those around you. Thank you once again for the gift.

Pam – N Fond du Lac, WI

February 2011

Thank you so very much for choosing me to be a recipient of your generous gift. It sure helped brighten my day. Your gift allowed me to purchase some items that would not have been possible without your generosity.

Thank you again for all you do to help survivors and to promote awareness of breast cancer. We won’t give up.

Sincerely yours,

Pat Linson

February 2011

I wanted to thank Pink Ribbon Riders for their generous donation. Diagnosed at age 33 with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer was very upsetting. No family history of breast cancer, I didn’t understand why this was happening. I had just finished school late in life and am a single mother of one daughter. Struggling through school I was excited to get a job as a RN but when I was diagnosed and had to miss a month of work and then only able to work part-time while on chemo. I received the gift card in the mail 2 weeks before Christmas, with bills piling up, it couldn’t come at a better time. There are so many angels out there and I am very blessed to have such organizations available to me. I look forward to the day when I get back on my feet and can pay it forward to others who are struggling with a cancer diagnoses. I still have a long road ahead, but my faith and strength as well as all the support around me will see me through. I will win the fight against cancer.

Thank you and God Bless, Sara

I am writing today to thank you for all you do for people with breast cancer. I have been so blessed to have received the gift card you gave me last year to help with my needs through this fight with breast cancer. So far I have won the fight; time will tell if it’s forever. Just after being at the Pink Ribbon Ride in Grand Rapids, MN we found out my husband had Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and we started his treatment. I can’t tell you how grateful I was for the help you gave me. A family with two people fighting cancer goes through a lot of money for unexpected expenses, even with good insurance. We have not found another organization like yours that really helps the person with day to day needs. I don’t know anyone with cancer that thought they would someday have to come home from the doctor and say the words, “I have cancer to the people they love.” We never think it will be us, we think we couldn‘t get cancer. The fact of the matter is cancer don’t care who it picks, it can be anyone. Please everyone do your screening and if things still don’t feel right keep looking for answers. We have to be our own best advocates, as we know our bodies best.
Pink Ribbon Riders is a very special group that cares about the person with cancer and their needs. I am so grateful and appreciative of your organization for the help given to me.

May God bless you and your work with Pink Ribbon Riders,

Shelly Casper-Waldham

This has been a life changing and challenging year for our family with the diagnosis and battle against my breast cancer. I lost my job due to so many appointments and treatments of this disease. My family and friends provided great support for me to stay focused on what the positive outcome will be from the chemo and radiation, I am so grateful to the Pink Ribbon Riders, and can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support! On a positive note, I was able to get another job at our local new hospital where I can share my story and bring more awareness and understanding of this disease.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Leitzke – Wisconsin

I would like to thank the PRR for the $500.00 gift card that I received in December. I am so grateful for organizations like yours that help out with the financial needs of breast cancer patients. The funds are going to help off-set the additional medical expenses that I now have. I was 37 years old when I was diagnosed in September with Stage 2 breast cancer. I completed a 16 week dose-dense chemotherapy regimen 5 weeks ago and tomorrow, on Valentine’s Day, I will be undergoing a double mastectomy surgery and axillary dissection. This past weekend, the PRR had a benefit ride in Old Forge, NY and friends of ours rode in honor of me. I look forward to participating in that ride myself and celebrating my “survivor status” next year.

Keep up the GREAT work…what you do is truly appreciated!
